I'm writing this letter in response to both Eric Dietrich and Mary Koppy’s articles on the ASMSU spending in the October 21st issue.
I find it funny how Dietrich and Koppy take it upon themselves to not only write two separate articles on the exact same issue, but specifically and publicly call out one individual with whom they have a problem. I think it's fair to assume people are capable of making mistakes and can learn from them. A relatively small (in regard to overall budget) mistake apparently warrants a public lashing, according to the ASMSU Senate and the Exponent. Koppy even quotes Mark Eggensperger as saying, "Alex came in learning on the fly," when referring to the subject at hand.
Let Alex learn from this and leave it at that. No need for this over-exaggerated, knee-jerk reaction. It's quite apparent that the Senate has communication issues and needs some fixing. Quoting Dietrich, "True change must come from within." I would agree, but instead of publicly casting out an individual, maybe the issues could be taken care of internally.
This doesn't even account for the berating I heard Alex already endured during the Senate meeting. But I guess it takes a printed gesture to prove a point these days. Think internally, ASMSU. Communication and politeness will get you a lot farther in life than you might think.
