Retention - A Farewell to College

As an aspiring writer, I’ve made the decision to withdraw from MSU. I feel that college has little to offer me that will not hinder my creative insights, finances and opportunities to explore the world rather than textbooks. For a writer whose creativity thrives off of personal experiences, my education at MSU was encroaching upon the spare time necessary to be inspired, to write.

Paradoxically, it was precisely my education at MSU that helped me realize my academic pursuits were not leading me to my desired career, and that college, in my case, was not necessary. I found myself overloaded with uninspiring classes and what felt like meaningless homework.

Due to the lack of job security, financial security, and work for freelance writers, I tried to convince myself that I was not interested in taking such a risk with a career like that. So, I dabbled in several fields of study before admitting to myself that all I am doing at MSU is racking up a huge bill.

It is with great appreciation for the opportunity to realize my passion for writing that I leave behind a chance at a college degree and create my own path to a successful and fulfilling career.
