While I understand that the MSU newspaper is supposed to be full of facts, entertainment and realizations of some sort of enlightenment, I feel that there is less enlightenment than just plain junk. First of all, the little riddles that are being used in the paper don't even make logical sense. Since when are pool tables ever found in trees? If the riddles are to be at all likable, than how about they make some kind of sense to begin with?
Secondly, the writing in the newspaper is rather boorish. The intro lines to catch the reader's attention is rather pathetic and mind numbing. Most people, I'm sure, would rather use these so called "columns" to lay on their rat cages than to continue insulting themselves with this drivel.
Thirdly, there are no hard-hitting news angles here. This is all a bunch of puff pieces disguised as true journalism when they are really nothing more than just "reality TV shows" in black and white print. Why not actually try writing about something more important than what it's going to be like to say goodbye to college? In case you need some ideas, here are a few: sexual assault prevalence on campus and in the U.S. today, how the passing of the healthcare package in Obama's administration is affecting students, or the economy's influence on Montana. These are ideas worth exploring. They give depth to the paper and have a real goal in mind in the process of enlightening the interested in the world.
Furthermore, the pictures that are used in this paper are rather lackluster and leave too much to the imagination when they are supposed to enhance our understanding of what the artist is saying.
Another insight to consider would be to possibly have a "Dear Abby" or "Miss Manners" column in which students are being directly involved in the newspaper, other than just the opinion page. But then again, what do I know? I'm just a bored reader with a lot of time on my hands. Besides, this is just my humble opinion.
