Hobbies: Building stuff, fishing, hiking with her dog Oslo, camping, crochet/knitting, kicking it with friends, balling on her yard bike.

Why did you move to Montana?
I wanted a secondary education in a smaller community with surrounding mountains. Also it was an important factor to find a place that would be easy to get used to compared to Valdez.

Do your future plans involve this area after school?
Yes, absolutely. I’d like to possibly invest in some property in the future and/or open an art shop.

What’s a day you’ll never forget?
A couple of friends and I fished the Yellowstone in a drift boat and I caught two whitefish. Along the river bank I dug out an elk skull with all its ivory teeth that I plan on making into jewelry. I also saw a large herd of elk crossing the river.

If you could do anything for a day, what would it be?
For a really long time I’ve wanted to go to a place in Switzerland called Thermal Baths. It would be amazing to go with a couple of friends and have a day of fishing, be pampered at the spa and eat a gourmet dinner.

While most of our readers were in deep R.E.M. this Halloween weekend morning, House was cruising past Livingston to fish the Yellowstone. She is a skilled survivalist in the outdoors thanks to her Alaskan upbringing.

In high school, one of her classes was survival training. A day at “school” for this class involved things such as a simulated boat crash in the Gulf of Alaska or elsewhere on the water. Wearing a “gumby” suit and with one thermos tied around her neck, full of whatever survival items that could fit, Chloe and her classmates jumped into 36 degree water and had to swim two miles up shore, where they then had to make camp and survive for 24 hours.

Another class was called industrial technology, essentially a wood shop class. Consisting of building survival items such as axes and knives, this class sparked her passion for metal works.  As an art major, Chloe specializes in welding together pieces of art as well as crafting ceramics. Once a week she volunteers at the Hayes metal shop as a studio monitor. Helping out lower division classes with their projects, mostly jewelry related, is a typical day at the shop for her.
