Name: Jonas Rosenlund

Hobbies: Laying people out on the lacrosse field, windsurfing, spearfishing, hiking and skiing

Why did you move to Montana? Montana has a lot to offer, not only some of North America’s best ski resorts, but also beautiful national parks and a lot of nice hiking destinations. I am really enjoying school and being on the team, as well as all the people I have met here.

Do your future plans involve this area? I haven't really made any plans yet, but I have considered moving permanently to the states after I'm all done with an MBA. First I have to go back to Norway for a little while, and then take one step at a time. But maybe one day.

What is a day you will never forget? The first day I went spearfishing in the Carribbean. I was a 12-year-old and nervous like never before. I also saw my first live tiger shark that day in Las Salinas, Dominican Republic.

If you could do anything for a day, what would it be? Spearfishing in the Bahamas. I have heard good stories about those waters.

As a transfer student from abroad, Jonas Rosenlund has been able to objectively involve himself in the Bozeman area. Utilizing the U.S. parks system, he has explored Yellowstone and Glacier parks, considering them to be in his top five places hiked in the world. Rosenlund states, “The nature in Montana is indescribable. I loved it from my first short hike to the ‘M.’”

Rosenlund doesn’t concern himself with the debate over Bridger versus Big Sky, he just likes to ski. Rosenlund enjoys the different snow quality here compared to the hard, slick snow the resorts in Norway usually offer. In terms of accessibility to the more dangerous terrain, cliffs and avalanche zones, Norway has strict rules about staying where it is safe.

According to Rosenlund, “Norway kind of keeps you in the normal slopes where everyone else goes, there are no challenges unless you ski in the park a lot.”

Being a natural athlete, Rosenlund was drawn to the idea of lacrosse here in Montana. Although playing lacrosse means less time in the mountains around Bozeman, he feels it has all been worth it. He may not have what he considers the flashiest stick skills, but he does have passion. You’d better keep your head up if you’re on the field with Rosenlund, because he will hit you hard.
