For the Bobcat men, a week home meant back-to-back victories. They played the Hornets of Sacramento St. (5-12 overall, 0-7 Big Sky Conference) on Jan. 19. The Cats started strong, ending the half with a score of 40-28. However, the Hornets battled back to within three points of the Cats with 2:34 left in regulation play. The Cats were able to make all six of their free throws in the final 30 seconds for the win. Forward Tre Johnson had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Cats. The final score was 72-65.
The Bobcats finished their run at home playing the Northern Colorado Bears (6-12, 3-4) on Jan. 21. The Cats started the game with a 20-7 run, and the Bears were never able to recover. MSU scored 48 points in the first half, the most since they faced Northern New Mexico earlier in the season. The final score was 84-72.
Freshman guard Michael Dison was the high scorer for the Cats, with 17 points. He went 4-5 from 3-point range, the largest contributor to the season-high 13 3-pointers for the Bobcats, who went 13-29 from behind the arc.
Head Coach Brad Huse said, “It was a highly productive weekend for us and we did a good job protecting our home court. We had good leads both nights and did what we had to do to get the wins. We continue to improve as a team and the players continue to work hard, and we’re seeing some good results.”
The mens’ overall record (10-8, 5-2), is good enough for third in the conference, behind Weber St. and Montana.
The Bobcat women also took home some wins in the past week. They beat Sacramento St. (7-13, 2-5) 76-71, and were victorious against Northern Colorado (12-8, 4-3), 52-51. These two wins bumped their overall record to (13-6, 5-2), putting them at second place in the Big Sky. They play Portland St. tonight, Jan. 26 at home. Tip-off is 7:05 p.m.
