Skiing is a large piece of Bozeman culture. In the winter, classrooms look a little thinner on powder days and Bridger’s availability is a major bonus for those in high school who are considering MSU. Regardless of your skiing background, if you’re interested in beginning a competitive downhill skiing career or continuing one, the Alpine ski club might be for you.

The club is a non-profit organization that was formed to give alpine ski racers, male or female, an opportunity to race competitively in the US Collegiate Ski Racing Association. Keep in mind, there are no skill level requirements to join.

The president of the Ski Club, Caila Hall, has been skiing all her life, and racing for seven years. “The best part about being a member of the club is the opportunity to travel all around the West (Mont., Colo., Idaho, Utah) to race in a fun atmosphere with a great group of people,” Hall said. There are dues at the beginning of each season, but the opportunities to travel and meet people far outweigh the costs.

The team has a considerable amount of success under their belt. In 2005 and 2007, the club placed second out of 20 teams in the USCSA Western Regional Championships, and walked away with first place in 2008. There are three races coming up in February, one in Missoula, one in Snowbasin, Utah and the third in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Nationals are at Sunday River, Maine.
