A strike, a spare and a Halloween fair

With Halloween on a Sunday this year, many students (myself included) used the whole three days to celebrate the holiday. And, what better way to kick off Halloweekend than a night of bowling, trivia and more? Last Thursday, Oct. 28, the Programs Activities and Campus Events Board (PACE) and the SUB Rec Center hosted the Halloween Rec Center Rumble. The wide variety of fun events included movie trivia, karaoke, a costume contest and of course bowling and billiards. There was a great turnout of around 175 people, and the karaoke was a big hit according to PACE chair Isaac Thomas. This was only the first of many Halloween events taking place last weekend — PACE also hosted a “Family Monster Mash” on the turf fields featuring carnival games and food. An Uber voucher sign up was set up through OSE and ASMSU for safe rides on Halloween weekend and the Procrastinator did a showing of “Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

These types of events are a great way to get involved on campus and meet people outside your typical social groups. “The notion of college is changing… people are starting to learn to slow down and enjoy their time here,” Thomas said. Along with events like the Rec Center Rumble, PACE is in charge of many events on campus. They worked with MSU Debut to bring Jamestown Revival to campus at the beginning of the school year and have a list of events planned for the rest of the semester and year to come. Included in that are plans for a rail jam event this winter, as well as bringing back the much beloved Battle of the Bands and the Ice Rink.
