Bobcat bar crawl: how gameday changes weekend spirit

It’s finally time to get ready for the most unforgettable game day of the year: the Cat-Griz Brawl of the Wild. This is Montana's most monumental game of the season, bringing in fans from all over to watch their favorite feud at Bobcat Stadium.

Bozeman’s bars are also getting ready to have fans packed into every corner of the bar, cheering and yelling while watching this long awaited rivalry. Mike Schaff, manager at the American Legion, is getting ready for Saturday’s rush. “I always like the boost to the economy,” Schaff says. “We see a huge increase in sales.”

Jina Seifert, general manager at Pour House and Club Zebra, also recognizes the impact a home Cat/Griz game has on Bozeman. “Every Bobcat football home game has a positive impact on Bozeman: not just on our industry, but also hotels, restaurants, retail stores and the Gallatin Valley as a whole,” Seifert said.

Although this game benefits the economy, it also comes with lots of angry fans, bar fights and large crowds. “I see more fights and damages in my building,” Schaff said. He has additional staff coming in to help manage the large crowds expected. If anyone gets out of hand, Schaff and his employees will handle it immediately. “We respectfully ask them to calm down or to leave. If not, we will call the Bozeman PD.”

Seifert also acknowledged the importance of the crowd’s safety during a game like this one. “For the upcoming weekend we expect a substantial crowd, so will add extra bar and security staff while keeping a close eye on occupancy limits to ensure the safety of customers and employees.”

Her staff is also trained to handle customers who get a little too frisky. “Disagreements can happen on any evening; our staff is trained to recognize and quickly dissolve any conflicts before they escalate,” she said.

Tuning in every TV to the game, Schaff hopes to see the Cats take the win. “Cats win 28-24,” he predicts.

The team at Pour House is also rooting for the Cats. “Many of The Pour House staff are either currently attending MSU or have graduated from MSU so we love the Bobcats!” Steifert said.

The Pour House will be broadcasting the big game, as they do for all home and away games. “We have 18 high resolution TVs throughout our establishment and will pair with our audio system for the ultimate watching experience,” Seifert said. “The energy and excitement during the game is infectious, so it’s a great place to partake in the game if someone is unable to secure tickets.”

Seifert also mentioned a popular game day drink those 21 and up won’t want to miss out on. “Bobcat Bombs are a particular favorite special on game days,” she said.
