Changing Bozeman one bite at a time
If you go to Fork and Spoon, be sure to go on a guest chef night. Once a month, Fork and Spoon will bring in a local chef from the Bozeman community to cook for the restaurant, providing a range of diverse food choices. This month, they hosted MSU Looking for a cheap and healthy dinner option? Want to get more involved in the Bozeman community? Then Fork and Spoon might be the place for you. If you have lived in Bozeman at any point over the past seven years, you might remember the Community Café, which was recently renovated into the Fork and Spoon Homestyle Kitchen. Fork and Spoon is a pay-what-you-can restaurant located on the corner of W. Beall and Seventh Ave. aiming to reduce the problem of food insecurity in the Bozeman community.
When walking into Fork and Spoon, you will be seated and given a recommended price for the food. If the recommended price is too high, the option is available to pay only a portion of it or pay nothing at all. You can also choose to pay more than the recommended price, which will help Fork and Spoon offset the cost of dining for those who cannot afford it. This is perfect for on-campus students looking for places to eat other than the dining halls, or students who live off campus that don’t cook or have access to a healthy meal. While at the Fork and Spoon, diners get the feeling that they’re are making a difference in the Bozeman community.
Culinary Services, which include University Food Services and the Fork in the Road food truck. In November, the Co-op will provide the guest chef. In addition to guest chefs, they also have classically trained resident chefs that make all the food in house. The menu changes every week, so there is a diverse food option every time you visit. The food comes from typical restaurant suppliers, but they also have local farmers from the Bozeman area donate surplus crops to the restaurant, meaning much of the food is locally sourced from the Bozeman area.
There are many ways to get involved with Fork and Spoon. They run off of a volunteer system, so if you want to help give back to the community, you can go to www.forkandspoonkitchen.org and get in contact with a representative. Chelsea Eddy, a representative from Fork and Spoon, said that the “best way people can get involved is to come and eat here.” So next time you are feeling sick and tired of the dining halls, but don’t want to spend a lot of money, give Fork and Spoon a try. You won’t be disappointed.
