The school year has come to a close and many students will be heading home or go on vacation for the summer. For those students who will be remaining in Bozeman, quite a few events and activities can be found around town if you know where to look. Whether you are reading this at the beginning of summer or closer to its finale, here are some opportunities to be on the lookout for.

Bobcat Fest on Main

This yearly celebration closes down Main Street as people from both MSU and the greater Bozeman community indulge in live music, beer, plenty of food and much, much more. Bobcat Fest takes place April 27 starting at 5 PM.

Cruisin’ on Main

The biggest car show in the region, Cruisin’ on Main beings hundreds of classic trucks, cars and motorcycles to downtown Bozeman. All are encouraged to enter, and registration begins on May 1st. All registered vehicles receive a gift bag and a dash plaque, and trophies will be given to the winners of each of 14 different categories including “People’s Choice.”

Museum of the Rockies

Representatives from Carter County Museum as well as each of the MOR’s four sister institutions in Japan will be in attendance at the museum for Kumamoto Montana Sister State Family Day. Opening and Closing Japanese Taiko drumming events will be held and the representatives will discuss aspects of astronomy and paleontology at their own institutions.The event will take place on May 12 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Art Walks

The Art Walk occurs on the second Friday of each month running June through September and features exhibitions all along Main Street varying from paintings to sculptures. Hors d’oeuvres are provided at some locations as well as wine for guests over 21.

Music on Main

Every Thursday from 6:30 8:30 PM, from June 28 through August 16th, various live music acts and food vendors will take over Main Street for Music on Main. The show is a great opportunity to get together with friends and enjoy Bozeman’s beautiful summer evenings. 

The Ellen Theater

Throughout the summer, the Ellen will be hosting a variety of family movie nights, western movie nights, live concerts and other events. Admission costs vary by event, and a full schedule may be found at the Ellen Theater website. Some highlights include The Searchers, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, a live concert from The Black Lillies and live comedy.
