Imagine a world where planet Earth does not exist. There is very little individuality, and most importantly, no rock music. On Sept 25, 2019, the musical “We Will Rock You” rocked our very own Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. The production is a colorful and exciting story that follows the lives of a group of rebellious Bohemians living on the dystopian and futuristic iPlanet, working for Globalsoft’s boss, Killer Queen. Two iPlanet citizens, Galileo Figaro and Scaramouche, (direct references to Queen’s song, “Bohemian Rhapsody”) fight for freedom, individuality and the rebirth of rock ‘n’ roll.
The musical is largely based around the music of Queen, featuring famous songs like, “We Will Rock You,” “We are the Champions,” and of course, “Bohemian Rhapsody,” as well as many others.
The show started out in typical musical fashion, with a combination of musical numbers and acting scenes, but by the second half of the performance, it had shifted into an interactive rock concert. The audience stomped and clapped along to “We Will Rock You”, swayed and sang to the sound of “Bohemian Rhapsody”, and hummed to the sweet melody of “Somebody to Love.” The musical was a perfect event to entertain music lovers and theater lovers, alike.
The production visited Bozeman as part of its North American tour that ends in February 2020. To date, “We Will Rock You” has played in over 28 countries around the world and seen by more than 16 million people. It is also the 15th longest running show in the West End Theater in Westminster, London.
The performance was nothing short of brilliant, and the story line made it a night to remember. Even one of the band members of Queen had something good to say about the show. Brian May, the lead guitarist for the band Queen stated that “The show is live, dangerous and more than anything else: it rocks!”
