Festivities to celebrate another year around the sun

It’s no secret that the environment is important, especially for Montanans who often spend their free time fishing, hunting, hiking, skiing and snowboarding. With that in mind, it was no surprise to me that not only is the Bozeman Public Library hosting an Earth Day event, but they are also hosting a variety of nature-honoring events that will take place throughout the month. From Tuesday, April 6, to Thursday, April 29, you can expect plenty of events to celebrate what our Earth has to offer.

Of course, with a month’s worth of events it’s impossible to touch on all of them, but there are a few that stood out to me in particular that I think would be worth checking out. On Thursday, April 8, from 11 a.m. - noon, former President of Ireland and leading climate justice activist, Mary Robinson, will touch on leadership and education in a Q&A hosted by MSU President Waded Cruzado. On Saturday, April 17, the Bozeman Public Library will be hosting its Gallatin Valley Earth Day Festival, which will come with food, music and exhibits to explore. On Thursday, April 22, from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m., you will be able to visit the Gallatin Conservation Center and receive free wildflower and vegetable seeds from its gardens. The option to bring your own seeds to share is available as well. On Friday, April 23, from 5:30 p.m. - 7 p.m., pop into an online event featuring Missoula artist Laurel Egan, who will host an art class on how to create a nature scene.

These are only a handful of events available this month. There are plenty more to find and enjoy as Montana celebrates another Earth Day.
