How to have fun under 21
If you are anything like me and are too young to get into the bars, or don't have an interest in drinking on a Friday night but still want something fun to do with your friends, you are in luck. Bozeman has plenty to offer in the way of under-21 nightlife, and I have some ideas for you!
Karaoke:
Fully embrace your inner Beyonce and hit up a karaoke night. There are a few options for karaoke nights in Bozeman, including multiple bars. However, if you want a truly unique and more private experience, try out Happy Box on Main Street. It’s located conveniently close to campus, and is a great time! Each room can comfortably accommodate up to 15 people, who pay $15/hour. After or during your fantastic rendition of "Single Ladies," you and your friends can enjoy some of the spectacular Asian street food that Happy Box offers.
Swing Dancing:
This month, live out your cowboy/girl fantasies and experience a western swing dance. The Outlaw Country Dancers put on multiple events each month, including two Saturdays in October, Oct. 8 and Oct. 22 at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds. These dances are so much fun, and there are always lessons before the dance. Admission is $6 for singles and $10 for couples. Trust me, if you’ve never gone swing dancing before, you won't be the only one. Show up with jeans and a comfortable shirt that you aren't afraid of getting dusty. Most people will be in boots; however, tennis shoes are perfectly acceptable.
Clubs:
Want an excuse to dress up? The Ponderosa Social Club doesn't have a dress code, but the elegant atmosphere might inspire you to ditch the sweatpants and head out for some fancy bowling and appetizers. Ponderosa is the latest edition to the Bozeman scene and lives up to the talk. The Ponderosa Social Club is a playground for those over 18, with fancy lounges, four bowling lanes and beautiful pool tables. Occasionally, there are opportunities to enjoy live music. Ponderosa is more expensive, but it’s worth it for the great vibes and experience. My friends and I went all in on one of the "Share Plates,” which was delicious. Bowling is $15 a person, which is definitely a bit more than the SUB, but it’s a fantastic experience. Afterward, we wandered down to Genuine Ice Cream, a delicious way to end the night.
Ready to try something new? Grab some friends, get ready to shake your groove thing, and hit the town for a night of [sober] fun!
