Lighting Up the SUB

Each year, the Office of Student Engagement (OSE) works hard to ensure that MSU feels like home. As a result, the OSE puts on a variety of fun events as part of their annual MSU Debut. This year, some of the events included a comedy night, a magician, a block party, and Service Saturday.

In addition to these wonderful events, the OSE held a Glow Zumba event on Wednesday, Sept. 11, to get students involved and moving. In total, 112 students showed up to dance under the black lights and release some of those stressful school jitters. Participating students walked into the SUB ballroom and were greeted by a dark room, filled with fluttering neon lights. The lights followed students around as they danced to upbeat international and Latin music. The subtle lighting made it easy to gracefully, or not so gracefully, dance around without feeling like too many eyes were watching. The event gave everyone the perfect opportunity to have some fun while not taking themselves too seriously.

Freshman Laila Balcerzak said, “I wanted to try something new and take the classes at the gym, at first I was like...why am I doing this, and then, it was really fun and I am looking forward to doing it more.” Junior Grace Vejvoda said, “I thought it would be harder to follow along with the instructors, but really it was more about moving and having fun.”

For students interested in taking Zumba classes on campus, the Marga Hosaeus Fitness Center group exercise team leads four Zumba classes each week, along with yoga, muscle pump, kettlebell classes, and much more.

MSU’s Office of Student Engagement did an excellent job putting on the Glow Zumba event. Students were engaged and moving, while having tons of fun. Everyone was smiling as they walked out of the SUB last Wednesday.
