Luke Combs rocks the Fieldhouse

Luke Combs and his band rode into town to offer up his modern take on country and Americana that has seen him quickly rise to a Country Music’s star. His debut album, “This One’s For You”, released by Columbia Records in June 2017, debuted at number one on Billboard’s Top Country Albums and number five on the US Billboard 200. All five singles from “This One’s For You”, including “Hurricane” and “She Got The Best of Me”, reached number one on Billboard’s Country Airplay Chart. In August 2019, “This One’s For You” celebrated its 44th week at number one in the country charts, as Combs broke the record for time spent at number one by a male country artist.  

Given this meteoric rise to stardom, it’s no surprise that when Combs announced his “Beer Never Broke my Heart Tour” would be passing through Bozeman, tickets flew out like hot cakes. Concert goers, young and old, on Wednesday Oct. 16, packed into the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse on Wednesday night, donning their finest flannel shirts and cowboy hats, ready for an evening of fast paced, sing-along laden Country, and maybe a few beers along the way.

As the lights dimmed, the curtain dropped to reveal Combs and his band, the crowd roared into life. Combs swaggered around the stage, nonchalantly swigging from the red solo cup that never seemed to leave his side (for real, he even had a cup holder attached to his mic stand). The band blasted through a setlist encompassing all the aforementioned singles that earned Combs the reputation he has today, as well as the latest single, “Beer Never Broke My Heart”, off his upcoming album. Beer seemed to be a constant in Combs’ back catalogue; I don’t think I’m far off wrong in saying every song included some reference. The painful irony of that being the inability to actually go and buy a beer once Combs took to the stage (Someone needs to have a word with the Fieldhouse about that one). 

Combs’ song writing ability was fully showcased as he poetically worked his way through themes of love, loss, Americana, and yes, beers. His upcoming album “What You See Is What You Get” is slated for release on Nov. 8th, 2019, with tour dates set to continue well into the new year.
