Old Time Rock & Roll: Bob Seger in Session

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Grammy award-winning artist Bob Seger was in town Tuesday, Sept. 17, with his Silver Bullet Band for an evening of classic heartland rock and roll.

After over a decade of touring and recording, the Detroit-born rocker made his commercial breakthrough in 1976 with the album Night Moves. Since then, he has gone on to sell over 75 million records with a career spanning nearly six decades. Seger visited Bozeman for the opening leg of his farewell tour with special guests The Wild Feathers from Nashville, TN.  

Locals packed into the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse with a palpable sense of excitement for the night ahead. The Wild Feathers got the show started with their country rock stylings, provoking a great reaction from the crowd upon introducing their song ‘Big Sky’: an ode to the state of Montana. 

As the lights dimmed for the second time, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band took the stage to rapturous applause from the crowd. Immediately launching into ‘Simplicity’, the 74-year-old Seger looked half his age as he worked the crowd into a frenzy. People all rose from their seats and were taking to the aisles to dance as The Silver Bullet Band whisked them back to the rock and roll heydays of years past. 

The band powered on into the night, never breaking pace, as Seger delved into his vast catalog, delivering all the hits as well as some surprise, rarely heard deep cuts. Classic songs such as ‘Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man’, ‘Hollywood Nights’ and ‘Night Moves’ had everyone singing along, whilst a superb cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘Forever Young’ served as a poignant reflection on the late and great names of rock and roll who’ve passed on. 

The tour continues across the country throughout Sept. and Oct., concluding with nights at the famous Madison Square Garden in New York City and Wells Fargo Centre in Philadelphia. More information about dates, venues and tickets can be found at bulletclub.bobseger.com
