With warm and sunny days early this spring, April looks like it might bring the warmer weather to Bozeman earlier than expected. Many people may be eager to get out and enjoy the weather before Bozeman pulls a late April fool’s and does a complete 180, bringing a cold front to the valley and a second winter to Gallatin County. For the group of us who are eager for the warm weather to stay and elated that we can finally enjoy camping, hiking and picnics in the sun, the endless amount of summer activities provides a great opportunity for outdoor recreation.

As someone who was mostly unfamiliar with the Bozeman area when I moved out here to start my college experience, I had no idea how many spring and summer activities were available. Some of these include white water rafting, horseback riding, tubing, and ziplining. Many of these adventures require booking in advance, which is exactly why the Exponent dove into a few different outdoor opportunities for this spring and summer.

Perhaps one of the most raved about things I have heard while being in Bozeman is that white water rafting is ‘the activity’ to do to beat the summer heat. Being surrounded by rough and splashing water in an inflatable tube down a river is a top-tier adventure. There are many different places to white water raft around Bozeman, but for a guided adventure, with simple online booking, fareharbor.comoffers multiple wonderful opportunities. About an hour outside of Bozeman in Gardiner, Montana, folks can book a trip ranging in length from a day-long excursion for friends and family to a quick rafting jaunt near Yellowstone. Also available to book viafareharbor.comis a Gallatin zipline tour, where adventurers can travel across the Gallatin River high up in the air for two hours of fun near Gallatin Gateway. For those who are interested, you can book ahead for the summer months, starting in May when the adventuring begins.

Another extremely popular and fun escapade would be tubing down the Madison River. While tubing excursions do not begin until the beginning of June, trip availability can be booked by giving Madison River Tubing a call at (406)-209-8384. Madison River Tubing should not be a last-minute booking due to popular interest.

For anyone looking to avoid rivers and water, horseback riding is also a popular option in Bozeman. There are a few places to hop on the back of a horse in the area. Sunrise Pack Station offers sleigh rides in the winter and horse trips in the summer, making it a go-to place for the ride of a lifetime. While they do not start booking trips until July, they have multiple horse trips available ranging from horseback rides, fishing trips and a combination of the two.
