Podcasts to keep you sane during the quarantine

Many things in your life have probably changed in the last few weeks. From switching to online classes to possibly moving back home, this time of uncertainty has brought with it loads of anxiety and stress. Luckily, this pandemic has also brought with it plenty of time for us to readjust to any and all life changes as we are self-isolating at home. But perhaps you have already exhausted the Netflix movie selection or scrolled through dog accounts on Instagram for far too long. Another way to take your mind off of a stressful situation is to check out podcasts.

Podcasts for the Super Stressed:

Stress is a very natural reaction to the change that is happening around us. Luckily, there are countless podcasts out there specifically geared toward lowering stress. If you are feeling uneasy about the current pandemic, take some time to listen to the podcast, “Managing Stress.” It helps you through a guided meditation that will help to quiet your thoughts and fears. “Stress Less 101” is also a good podcast that reviews some common symptoms of stress and helps individuals work through them.

Podcasts for the News Junkie:

Of course, some people would prefer to know exactly what is going on in the world right now as it changes and evolves every minute. You might feel most at ease when you have all the information about a situation. Check out NPR’s podcast section on their website and “The Daily,” to keep up with the news. These podcasts cover COVID-19 as well as other important happenings in the world, like the upcoming election, our current political climate and much more.

Podcasts for People Lacking Laughs:

For those of you who would prefer to stay positive during this time and continue to laugh, you are in luck. There are plenty of comedians that release podcasts for their fans. Be sure to check out Conan O’Brien’s Podcast, “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend,” for a good giggle. This podcast has 57 different episodes that are sure to keep you entertained and a new one is released each week. Recently, O’Brien even recorded a special quarantine episode. For more hilarious podcasts, check out “WTF with Marc Maron” and “Girls Gotta Eat.”

Podcasts for Storytellers and Listeners:

Podcast stories are one of the best ways to pass time. If you love a good story, definitely check out the podcast, “Dirty John.” This podcast is a true crime story based on the life of John Michael Meehan. John seems to be a successful, sweet and loving man, but listeners will quickly discover that there is something not quite right about John. Another great storytelling podcast is “This American Life.” This podcast picks a theme each week and shares stories about the chosen theme. It is a great podcast because the subject changes each week, which keeps it new and interesting.

It is also a great idea to listen to a podcast about something that interests you. There are millions of different podcasts out there. Chances are someone else is just as interested, and took the time to share their love through a podcast. Whether you feel better equipped to handle this new phase of life by soaking in information or you just want to escape by diving into a world of stories, podcasts can provide you with whatever you need to help you adjust and, hopefully, stay sane.
