Spineless Thugs N’ Harmony
Days after performing at the Rialto in Bozeman, Bone Thugs N’ Harmony rebranded their name to something a little softer: Boneless Thugs N’ Harmony. This is a partnership with Buffalo Wild Wings (BWW), in order to promote BWW boneless wings. At first, most people thought this was clickbait, but it was later confirmed by reputable sources like Rolling Stone Magazine and Complex. I guess 25 years of touring wasn’t enough for the group to make the amount of money necessary to support their lifestyle.
As a fan of hip hop and music (and seeing them perform live two weeks ago), I thought it was a little odd for a group that with such a deep-rooted history to just change their name as soon as a check is presented to them, but if this is what they have to do to keep making music, then there is no reason that they shouldn’t accept it. Bone Thugs are more than just a name. The group could rename themselves something like “Boneless Pugs and Melodies” and their music wouldn’t change. They are a group of people who don’t come from a lot, wanting to make as much money as they can, just like every other American. I just hope they don’t change their style of music because it is so unique and beautiful. I also hope this means that they can still continue to tour, because this group has a major audience that would be disappointed to see their beloved group stop doing what they do.
But true fans should not be worried about the name sticking around. Layzie Bone posted on Instagram, “The name change was just a joke y’all calm down,” so this was obviously just a PR stunt that got people talking about both Bone Thugs and Buffalo Wild Wings. For the time being, Bone Thugs are just as original as they were in the 90’s (unless a bigger check shows up).
