After a few too many matches were canceled, the Bobcat men’s tennis team was back in action for a packed weekend on the road in the Pacific Northwest. The Cats kicked off their weekend playing against Seattle U on Friday, March 12, with an exciting 4-3 win. This was their first match since early February and only the third match of the season. The team currently has a three-match win streak against Seattle U, their last loss against the Redhawks occurred in 2017.

In the matchup against Seattle U, the Bobcats picked up points thanks to wins by sophomore Nejc Sitar and freshman Marcos Zelver, as well as freshman Manuel Monterio and freshman Daan Van Dijk in the doubles matches. Freshman Brad Buckland and redshirt senior Chase Stoner both won their singles matches, and the final singles match featuring Monterio proved to be decisive as he went on to win in three sets, (6-7 (7-9), 7-5, 6-4)

The men then headed south down Interstate 5 to face Portland State on Saturday, March 13. This match marked the first loss of the season for the Bobcats (1-6). The loss is a little out of character for the men’s team as they have typically come up with wins or very close losses against Big Sky competitors.

On Sunday, March 14, the men faced a similar fate against the University of Portland, suffering the second loss of the season (2-5). After the loss, the Bobcats remain winless against the Pilots, dropping every match since the two squads initially met in 2008.

The Cats will look to rebound when they take the court against Idaho State on Saturday, March 20. The Bobcats have already faced ISU twice this season, claiming exciting wins on both occasions. On Sunday, March 21, the men will face Boise State in a match that is predicted to be a great opportunity for the Bobcat men to demonstrate their extreme talent and love for the sport. The women’s tennis team is also playing Boise State on Sunday, March 21, where they hope to pull off their first win of the season.
