Students speculate about Miller’s new food station
Miller Dining Hall will soon be revealing a new buffet counter for students to enjoy. A sign reading “Crave coming February 17th” has been displayed inside since the start of the spring semester, and many students are intrigued as to what this new station could be.
Miller offers different stations for students to choose from, including 406 Deli, Toscana Pizza & Pasta Bar and Chop’t Soup & Salad Bar. With savory and sweet options already in the mix, students expressed interest in a variety of different options for the new counter.
Architecture majors Peyton Trabert and Ashlyn Baker said they’re hoping the station will be open for late-night bites.
“Right now, your only option [late at night] is pizza or cereal. So, it'd be super cool if they could do it later,” Trabert said.
Baker said she hopes for more choices in the dining hall, as the current options are not the healthiest.
“I [would] really like more fruits, fresher fruits,” she said. “I love getting fruits and they're always out so often — maybe just another variety.”
Baker said that it would be great for the dining hall to bring more variety, breaking away from staples of the American diet such as pizza, pasta and burgers.
“Maybe different cultures and cuisines — freshen it up a bit,” she said. “When you're eating a burger or pizza every single day for months on end, it gets a little old.”
Trabert said she often hears students talk about craving different ethnic foods, such as Indian cuisine or Mexican food other than tacos, and thinks it would be great for the dining hall to incorporate more of these options.
University Studies majors Makenna Thorson and Aubrey Duman said they predict the new station will be something sweet because of the use of the word “crave.”
Thorson said it would be amazing if Miller had a fro-yo station with a toppings bar. “I feel like it's going to be a sweet thing, because I feel like they have a lot of savory stuff, but they only have ice cream,” she said
Duman said the dining hall should ask students what they crave each week — in reference to the new counter’s name — and feature the most requested options at the station.
“I feel like it'd be cool if they did a Google sign-up sheet, [with] multiple decisions of food and then make it for their week,” Duman said.
Thorson and Duman both said that a late-night sushi bar would be an exciting addition to the dining hall for people who want healthier options or have a dietary restriction.
At the time of publication, Miller Dining Hall had not responded to multiple requests for comment regarding the new food station.
