Talking dollar dollar bills y’all

Do you want to stack penny stocks and flip birds like Jordan Belfort? If you're looking to make connections, apply for internships and talk a whole lot of money, then Finance Club is the place for you. They meet every other Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in Jabs 407. There are no other prerequisites or requirements to join. 

The next meeting is a mixer on Tuesday, Sep. 13, at Wealthvest. This mixer will hold a presentation from a chief investment strategist about his Wall Street experience. Finance club president, Kyle Goodale, emphasized that anyone wearing finance bro vests will receive extra credit. He also wants to hear a lot of Wolf of Wall Street quotes, the more the merrier. 

Goodale explained how the goal of the club is to “introduce the inevitable earlier in students' lives so that they are empowered with the confidence to make their own informed financial decisions.” 

Club advisor and head of the finance department, Gary Caton, drew attention to all the benefits this club has to offer during the first meeting. “The more you network the better.” 

Goodale also remarked on the opportunities offered to students. “The Finance Club offers students the opportunity to be proactive about their financial goals, whether they are career driven or simply for retirement. We do this by hosting investment experts, playing a virtual stock exchange game and presenting the current market conditions in an open forum.”

Networking is the key for young students to start to get a foot in the door. It’s never too early or too late to start participating in events that’ll benefit your future career.

A few students talked about the internships they received and how to get started with applying for them. Alexis Tinsley and Kirsten Kraske both spoke on their summer internships at J.P. Morgan. Tinsley added that the club “opens up many pathways to internship and job opportunities.” 

Whether you're eager to learn about the market or not, the Finance club offers “a sense of community in Jabs,” as Kraske said.
