The halftime show of the decade, commercials to disappoint

Da, da, da, da, da it's the one and only Super Bowl halftime show, Snoop Dogg! Da, da, da, da, da it's the best it’s been since 2016. Yeah, yeah, yeah!

Since the moment I found out that Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar were performing at this year’s Super Bowl Halftime show, I knew it was going to be legendary.

I have to say, I solely watch the Super Bowl for the commercials, the halftime show and the endless appetizers. By the end of the night, I’m happily fed and can sleep well knowing I’m not too affected by who actually wins.

Most of the time, I'm munching on snacks while the actual game is playing, but this year’s was quite captivating. The commercials were a big disappointment too, which forced most of my attention onto what was happening on the field.

Usually, Budweiser and M&M’s commercials are unbeatable, but this year that wasn’t the case. Budweiser’s was much shorter than normal and M&M didn’t even have one. Although these two didn’t live up to expectations, there were a few that made me let out a laugh.

Amazon’s Alexa commercial featured beloved Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost. The irony in this commercial was on point and Johansson proved once again to be one of my favorite female actors.

The CGI in the NFL’s “Bring Down the House” commercial was unbelievable, especially for how long the commercial was. I can’t even imagine how much money they spent on that one but it was definitely worth it.

The halftime show was the cherry on top of the hot fudge sundae. I don’t really like cherries, but this one was more than exceptional. I’ve never seen such an intricate stage set up. It resembled the city of Compton, to commemorate the historical rebirth of Death Row Records, and I still can’t wrap my head around how they put it all together in six minutes.

They started off the performance with Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre singing “The Next Episode,” a classic. I couldn’t take my eyes off of Snoop Dogg’s flashy blue tracksuit. Not only can he still put on a great show, but he looks even better doing it.

Not long into the song, 50 Cent made a surprise appearance and showed up upside down, recreating one of his most popular music videos, singing “In Da Club.” I don’t know how long he was hanging upside down there, but he didn’t miss a beat.

Not too long after, one of my personal favorites, Mary J. Blige, started singing “Family Affair.” She was dressed in a white bodysuit with knee high boots, and she just about out-dressed Snoop Dogg in my opinion, which says a whole lot. I loved every second of her performance but I do wish she had a little more screen time. Then again, that might just be me being biased.

Eminem was next, performing his hit song, “Lose Yourself.” I’m not as much of an Eminem fan as I am the others but he still delivered a good show.

They wrapped up the performance with a bang, singing “Still D.R.E.” I was more than pleased with this halftime show and all I have left to say is good luck to the NFL on trying to top this year’s lineup. As for the commercials, that’s a different story.
