The Inaugural Asian Multicultural Night in the SUB to be held this weekend

An inaugural night celebrating Asia's vast customs and cultures will light up the SUB ballrooms this weekend, on Sunday, April 16. The event will feature everything, including dancing, solo music performances, great food, even customary toys and a fashion show.

The newest night to celebrate different cultures will be brought to campus by the Asian Student Interracial Association at Montana State (A.S.I.A), and its partnerships with other student organizations, like the Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan Student Associations at MSU.

“The idea of this event is to showcase to the Bozeman community and the university how diverse Asian cultures are,” said A.S.I.A vice president Aishik Biswas. “There are so many countries in Asia, so we've tried to contact other organizations, such as the Indian Student Association and the Chinese Cultural Club, and we are partnering with them to bring different elements”.

“It's the first-ever Asian multicultural event on campus. So it's a huge event that's a first of its kind, and we are partnering with so many different people to make it possible,” said A.S.I.A president, Olivia Gervacio Jakabosky.

Biswas and Jakabosky have diligently planned this event since last spring after attending the Afro-Cultural night.

“I attended that and it was a really good event and we then thought that it would be really nice to have something like that for Asia as well,” Biswas said.

The Asian Multicultural Night is open to everyone in the community. One of the student organization's most significant priorities for this event is to help bridge the gap between the university and the community of Bozeman. They estimate and hope 300 people will attend their event this weekend.

“Currently, we have around 100 to 120 people who have already registered for the event, or they're performing,” Biswas said.

The event is free; however, tickets are available for purchase if you want to enjoy traditional foods from different Asian countries. Proceeds from the event will go back to the Asian Student Interracial Association to be used for future events.

The tickets are available for $7 on eventbrite.com or $7 cash at the door. However, the event organizers highly recommend purchasing your food ticket online before the event. Buying tickets online will help them gauge how much food they need to prepare and speed up the check-in process at the door.

The Asian Multicultural Night will be held in the SUB ballrooms on Sunday, April 16, at 5 p.m. The doors open at 4 p.m.
