Time for a new chapter

To the readers,

My time at the Exponent has been relatively short, but it has been the highlight of my final few years at MSU. Without it, I would never have gone out of my way to catch performances of Shakespeare in the Parks, to try out new restaurants around town or simply explore my own school. Writing for the Exponent gave me an excuse to get out of my comfort zone, and my experience at MSU was definitely the better for it.

That being said, I’m very excited to get to go to sleep on Wednesday nights before 1 a.m. and to start using the Oxford comma again. If I never see an AP style guide again it will be too soon. The late nights were worth it, though. I made friends through the Exponent I would likely never have met otherwise, and the mayhem of production night was never a burden with everybody there. I’ll miss the dumb humor of the box texts, the midnight games of Jackbox or Cards Against Humanity, the late night runs to Avogadro’s and all the sleep-deprived, nonsensical jokes.

As the year comes to a close and summer approaches, I know that the Exponent will probably be the last thing on my mind. But I also know that come next year, as I attempt to navigate living overseas, it will be the memories of laughter and camaraderie that stick in my mind while the stress, arguments and late nights fade away. Thank you for the time that you have given the Exponent this year. Thank you for the chance to participate in MSU’s history. I will miss my time as an editor, but I know the editors who take over in the years to come will be more than up to the task.

Honestly, they’ll probably make me look bad. Oh well.
