Yes, and: Get yourself over to Last Best Comedy

Since rolling into town last September, folks have been buzzing about the laughs down at Last Best Comedy. The new comedy club is the brainchild of Chicago/Los Angeles improv artists Annie and Levin O’Connor and The Bozeman Improverts’ own Molly Hannan. The trio have brought this entertainment right to the historic Bozeman Hotel, located just beneath the Pour House off of Main and Rouse. 

In a not-so-discreet underground location, Last Best Comedy has a great atmosphere for entertainment right from the get-go. Its speakeasy-type interior makes for a regal entrance, and the friendly group of staff, comedians and goofy people there to greet you only enhances the place’s charm. “I think Last Best Comedy club is a fun and inclusive place where friends, strangers and comics can gather and connect over things we don’t usually talk about in our daily lives. If I had to describe it in one word, the word would be approachable,” MSU alumn Sydney Hollman said.

Once admitted, the space is open and warmly lit, showcasing its modest platform where local and visiting talents will take the stage. The next natural step, though, is to hit up the bar. Opposite the stage, there is great access at all times during a performance to grab a drink from LBC’s wide selection. Each week they offer a new pair of creative tasty concoctions for their specials, which do run on the pricier side. But when you see a “Peppermint Patty” shot that claims to taste exactly like the real thing (and then does!) tell me how easy it is to turn down a $10 beverage. There is certainly a plethora of other drinks too.

Finally, enter the comedic portion of Last Best Comedy. Every Tuesday night LBC hosts its version of open mic night: Bone Dry Comedy Hour. Starting at 8 p.m., 20 performers of all levels and backgrounds brave it to bring the laughs. Not everyone is an absolute hit, but LBC has a very friendly, encouraging policy, so no performer ever goes unsupported. There are plenty of hilarious people to keep you on your toes and, if you’re like me, make you laugh-cry your eyes out. The great thing about this opportunity is that anyone can sign up (and it’s free!). If you’re interested, just hit up their website, lastbestcomedy.com, where signups open Sundays at midnight.

Wednesdays at LBC are for the people — literally. Wednesdays For The People is an opportunity to see local improv troupes and get your own chance to improvise on the stage. There are other chances to learn from the comedic experts at Last Best Comedy if you’re looking for even more. Starting Monday, March 7, the club will be offering a six week Improv 101 course on Mondays from 7 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. The course has a $195 fee and no experience is required.
