9-year-old killed in Bozeman bicycle crash, witnesses aid investigation

Bozeman police shared an update on the crash that killed a 9-year-old girl in the 300 block of East Griffin Drive near North Rouse Avenue this morning.
Investigators said several drivers saw the crash and gave statements to law enforcement. Police also confirmed the driver stopped right away and cooperated with the investigation.
Chief Jim Veltkamp shared the department's response to the loss.
"It is with heavy hearts that we share this update. The loss of a child is a tragedy. Our deepest condolences go out to the friends, family and truly the entire community, as we are all impacted by this loss," said Bozeman Police Chief Jim Veltkamp.
Detectives with the Bozeman Police Department investigated the crash with help from the Montana Highway Patrol. Preliminary findings showed the girl was riding west on the south side of Griffin Drive before turning north across the road in front of a westbound vehicle.
Veltkamp also thanked the agencies that responded.
"We appreciate Bozeman Fire Department, Montana Highway Patrol, American Medical Response and the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office for their assistance during this event," said Veltkamp.

Bozeman police investigated a vehicle versus bicycle crash near Griffin and Rouse on Wednesday morning that left a child dead.

BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Bozeman Police Department reported a heavy police presence near Griffin and Rouse.
“Please avoid the area,” the department wrote.
The post did not say what prompted the police presence.
A spokesperson for the Bozeman Police Department told NonStop Local they do not have details to give out right now but clarified there is not a safety risk to the public at this time.
