Bill Sprinkle, father of Coach Sprinkle and legendary Montana coach, passes away
HELENA, MT- Bill Sprinkle had a storied career.
Born in Seattle, Sprinkle grew up in Great Falls.
Sprinkle earned eight varsity letters during his time at Great Falls Central, excelling in football, basketball and track. He was co-captain in the East-West Shrine Game and was highly recruited, eventually landing a scholarship at the University of Washington.
Despite injuries sidelining him for two years, Sprinkle started every game as a defensive back for the Huskies in 1967 and 1968.
After graduating, Sprinkle came home to Montana where his coaching career took off.
Sprinkle's influence extends to his family. In 2019, his son Danny became the head basketball coach at Montana State, leading the team to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances for the first time in school history, his son now coaches at the University of Washington.
Today the University of Washington posted, "The University of Washington lost one of its own this weekend with the passing of @UW_Football alum Bill Sprinkle. Our thoughts are with Coach Sprinkle, his family and all those who knew and loved Bill."
Sprinkle passed away over the weekend.
