Bobcat Volleyball gains steam

With conference play only a week away, the Bobcat volleyball team finished their non-conference matchups at the Seattle University Tournament Sept. 14 and 15. Looking to create momentum heading into the conference matches, the Cats found their rhythm and came away with two victories on the weekend to complete the sweep.

The first game of the tournament was against Tennessee Tech University, and the Cats came out a bit slow, surrendering the first set 25-18. With a deficit in their view, MSU answered back with a superb effort in a 25-12 victory in the second set to knot up the match at one set apiece going into intermission. With renewed vigor, the Cats found their flow and cruised through the next two sets 25-21 and 25-19 to seal the deal and came away with the victory three sets to one.

Junior outside hitter Evi Wilson sliced and diced the Tech defense to the tune of a game-high 17 kills. Junior libero Alyssa Rizzo continued her dominant defense for the Cats, racking up 20 digs to top the stats sheet.

The Cats followed up their win with another match to close out the Seattle Tournament against the hosting university. Coming out strong from the previous victory the day before, the Cats were motivated to bring home a win and return home on a hot streak. The first set showed the Cats were there to play, taking the first set 25-22. Seattle answered back with a 25-18 victory in the second set to bring the game even at the break. Needing a pick-me-up, the Cats found it by means of a 25-18 victory in the third set which carried over to the fourth where the Cats captured the match with a 25-23 victory.

Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Scott paced the Bobcats with 15 kills. Juniors Mckayla Landreth and Wilson also picked up double-digit kills during the match. Rizzo again showed out compiling 24 digs for the Cats.

The Cats return to Bozeman to start conference play against Portland State Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. in Shroyer Gym.
