Boy, 13, injured after falling from carnival ride in Butte

A 13-year-old boy was seriously injured after falling from a carnival ride in Butte on Sunday afternoon, according to Sheriff Ed Lester.

The incident occurred at 3:09 p.m. Sunday in a parking lot north of the Butte Civic Center. Butte Fire Rescue and A-1 Ambulance responded, Lester said.

The boy fell from a moving carnival ride and sustained serious injuries, according to the sheriff. The ride was immediately shut down and cordoned off pending further investigation. The boy's status as of Sunday evening was unknown, per Lester.

Butte police also suspended operations of all carnival rides at the scene “as a precaution,” Lester said.

Lester confirmed the incident occurred on the Yo Yo ride at the carnival. Police could still be seen at the ride on Monday morning.

The incident remains under investigation, according to the sheriff.
