Butte voters resoundingly pass pair of school levies

Ballot tallies Tuesday showed that Butte voters resoundingly passed two levies sought by the Butte School District. The outcome seems especially significant during a time of rising fuel prices and other household expenses.

Voters approved a 10-year, $3.2 million technology levy for the high school by a large margin — with 4,168 for and 2,726 against.

There was similar support for the Elementary District General Fund levy of $175,000 — with 4,003 for and 2,455 against.

Kevin Patrick is the director of business affairs for the Butte School District.

“We are very excited with the results and are thankful for such a supportive community,” he said Wednesday morning.

Ballots went out last month.

There were no contested school board races. Three incumbents filed for three open seats — Ann Boston, Tom Billteen and Patty Hepola.

The Butte School District said the technology levy would help ensure students at Butte High School have the resources they need to learn safely and competitively. School officials said the technology levy was needed to replace aging instructional technology, implement sustainable technology and improve student access to up-to-date technology, including hardware and software, computer network access and more.

Meanwhile, Anaconda Public School District voters passed two technology levies Tuesday, with one for the elementary school and one for the high school.
