Granite County commissioner cited for driving without proof of insurance in Missoula

A Granite County commissioner received a citation earlier this month in Missoula County for driving without proof of insurance. The initial charges, later dropped, included driving with a suspended license, which stemmed from a first-offense DUI in 2024. Adler pleaded guilty to a second DUI in 2026.

Scott Adler, a Republican commissioner in District 2, received a citation on May 4 from the Montana Highway Patrol for failing to carry proof of insurance on Interstate 90 in Missoula County.

He was charged for driving with a suspended license, but that charge was dropped. Adler has a provisional license after a 2024 first-offense DUI charge he picked up when he was driving on Highway 1 with a blood-alcohol content of .120, according to court documents.

Adler pleaded guilty to the 2024 charges, and pleaded guilty to a 2025 charge for disorderly conduct. In 2019, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft after using county resources, including personnel and equipment, to pave his own driveway.

According to court documents, Adler received a second DUI in Missoula County on Sept. 13, 2025 on I-90. He was pulled over and told the officer he'd been drinking, according to documents, and his breath sample measured at a .196% BAC.

Adler pleaded guilty to this DUI charge on Feb. 17, 2026, and spent seven days in jail.

He was first elected to the commission in 2010, was reelected twice since, and is up for reelection in 2028.

Adler did not respond to requests for comment by press time.

Adler's next hearing on the Missoula citation is scheduled for May 27 at 1:30 p.m. in Missoula County Justice Court. He has no defense attorney listed.
