Helena man dies after being struck by truck while walking on highway near Kalispell

A 28-year-old Helena man died Saturday after being hit by a pickup truck while walking on U.S. Highway 2 near Kalispell, the Montana Highway Patrol reported Sunday.

The crash occurred just before 3 a.m. on Saturday. A Ford F-150 was driving westbound on the highway when the driver, an 18-year-old woman from Eureka, activated her high beams and saw a pedestrian in the driving lane, MHP reported. There are no shoulders on that part of the road.

The man was hit by the vehicle’s front bumper and rolled into oncoming traffic, according to the MHP crash report. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The report states the pedestrian was wearing all black clothing and could not be seen at that time of day. MHP does not suspect drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.

The vehicle had three passengers. No other injuries were reported at the scene, but the report indicates the driver was transported to a hospital in Kalispell.
