Holmes fire west of Montana City controlled, evacuation notice cleared

HELENA, Mont. - Residents west of Montana City in the area of Skihi Peak Drive are being warned to prepare for evacuation due to a wildfire burning in the area.

"Those near the incident must be prepared to evacuate," the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said in a social media post. "If you feel unsafe or need extra time, strongly consider leaving now."

The Jefferson County Emergency Manager and Fire Warden Doug Dodge told NonStop Local that the fire was at the top of Skihi Peak Drive and a few acres in size. Helicopters from the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation are also on the way.

"Every effort will be made to notify those at risk to evacuate should it be necessary, but this may be the only notice provided due to time and resource limitations," JCSO said.

Residents are also urged not to call 911 for more information unless it is an emergency.
