MHP cited 21 DUI drivers over two days of St. Paddy's celebrations in Butte

Montana Highway Patrol said troopers issued 21 DUIs over two days of St. Patrick's festivities in and around Butte.

Capt. Dale Oliverson, commander of the Montana Highway Patrol’s Butte District, and Sgt. Mike O'Connor said MHP troopers were busy as usual on Monday and Tuesday.

MHP deployed its Strategic Enforcement Traffic Team to help crack down on impaired drivers.

“It was busy, for sure,” he said.

Sgt. O’Connor said six people were cited by MHP for driving under the influence on Monday and 15 others were cited on Tuesday.

O’Connor said MHP troopers also ticketed 22 drivers for other offenses, including speeding, defective equipment and suspended drivers’ licenses.

“It was a pretty typical St. Patrick’s Day,” he said.
