MSU excels at NCAA Skiing Championships

The 65th annual NCAA DI Skiing Championships took place in Steamboat Springs, Colo., March 7-10. MSU earned a program-best third place at the RMISA/NCAA West Regional Championships on Feb. 23-25 in Steamboat Springs, qualifying them for the NCAA DI Championships. MSU’s full 12-member team qualified for the championships this year, one of only eight schools whose entire team qualified.

MSU skiers took home a number of accomplishments after championship weekend. Sophomore Anna Fake finished eighth overall in the five-kilometer classic event with a time of 15:57.5 on Mar. 8, earning her the status of All-American Performer. For the second-straight appearance, junior Stephanie Gartner earned a First-Team All-American title after her fifth place slalom performance, finishing with a time of 1:20.93. Sophomore Emma Tarbath earned first-team All-American honors following her fifth place finish in the 15-kilometer freestyle. She finished with a time off 44:31.5, earning enough points for the Bobcats to capture a sixth-place overall finish.

Overall, MSU earned six All-American honors, the sixth highest total at the 2018 NCAA meet. This concludes the season for the MSU Ski team, and they will not be hitting the slopes again until January of next year.
