No explosive threat found after Belgrade bomb investigation

Belgrade Police detectives determined a suspicious device discovered during the execution of an arrest warrant on Mantle Drive on Tuesday, was not an explosive.

On June 2 at approximately 7 p.m., Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office deputies executed a Belgrade City arrest warrant in the 600 block of Mantle Drive in Belgrade. After the arrest, deputies conducted a search of the residence and discovered electrical components, batteries, and other materials wired together in a manner raising concerns about a potential explosive device.

Neighborhood residents were evacuated that evening. The Belgrade Community Library was made available to displaced residents. The library was closed at approximately 11 p.m. as no one made use of the facility, per Whitney Bermes, City of Belgrade Communications Manager. Residents could return to their homes by midnight on Wednesday.

Deputies notified Belgrade Police on their findings, per a Wednesday Belgrade Police news release.

“Out of an abundance of caution, personnel from both agencies evacuated nearby residents and established a safety perimeter around it,” reads the release. “During the subsequent investigation, interviews revealed that the suspect had previously made comments related to bombs.”

Investigators ultimately determined that the device was not live and did not pose an explosive threat.

The suspect remains in custody, and there is no immediate danger to the public, per law enforcement.
