Residents evacuated near Mantle Drive

UPDATE 1:14 a.m.: The scene on Mantle Drive has been cleared, and roads in the area have reopened, according to a city press release issued at 1:08 a.m. Residents may now return to their homes.

"This incident remains under investigation," reads the release. "Thank you for your patience and cooperation."

UPDATE, 12:41 a.m.: The library has closed, but anyone who has been evacuated who has urgent needs can call 406-388-4262 for assistance.

Homes near the 600 block of Mantle Drive were evacuated Tuesday evening due to a bomb threat.

Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office deputies had been serving a warrant on someone at a residence in the 600 block of Mantle Drive at about 7 p.m. when suspected bomb-making materials were found, according to a Tuesday-evening statement from the Belgrade Police Department and a press release from the city.

“Out of an abundance of caution, Belgrade Police and sheriff’s office personnel evacuated nearby residences,” the police statement reads.

"The investigation remains active, and residents are asked to continue avoiding the area while law enforcement personnel work to safely assess the scene," reads the city press release issued at 10:46 p.m. Tuesday.

"Mantle Drive and Jackrabbit Lane between Mayfair Drive and Golden West Drive remain closed," the release reads. "A suspect was taken into custody during the incident. Evacuated residents with an urgent need to access their homes may call 406-388-4262 for assistance. The Belgrade Community Library is open and available for residents who have been displaced and need a place to wait while the situation is resolved."
