Swinging into spring
Bobcat tennis is in full swing this spring, with the men taking on Southern Utah and Northern Arizona and the women taking on Idaho State and Weber State. Both teams have fought hard over recent weeks, but have hit a rough patch as the Cats dropped each match.
The men’s team took on the Northern Arizona (NAU) Lumberjacks on April 7. The Cats came in searching for a win, but were met by a strong team which turned the Cats away early in route to a 7-0 win for the Lumberjacks.
The Cats then journeyed to Southern Utah (SUU) April 8 for a match against the Thunderbirds. The doubles point was won early by the Thunderbirds after a straight-set match win in the second match. SUU followed this up with three straight victories in singles to secure their overall win. Senior Rok Sitar and sophomore Kasper Parlklo won their singles matches for MSU, giving the Cats two points as the Thunderbirds walked away with a 5-2 victory.
On April 7, the Bobcat women’s tennis team traveled to Ogden, Utah for a Big Sky Conference tilt against the Wildcats of Weber State. With a revamped lineup, the Bobcats looked to snap their Big Sky skid, but were turned away early as the Wildcats took the doubles point to be up 1-0 before going to the singles. The Bobcats responded well by taking two of the first three singles matches, but lost the remaining three, and eventually fell 5-2. Freshman Annie Walker and Sophomore Laura Mary each won their respective singles matches for MSU.
The Bobcats next traveled to Idaho State on April 8 for another Big Sky Conference matchup. Again looking to regather momentum, the Cats came in with a hunger for a win, but were only able to muster up one point. Mary won her singles match again, giving MSU to their only point, but Idaho State took six and the victory.
The men’s team also hosted the University of Idaho on Wednesday, April 11, with another match scheduled for Friday, April 13 against the Portland State Vikings. The women’s team next hosts Eastern Washington Eagles on April 13.
