UPDATE: Pedestrian killed in Oak Street crosswalk was Bozeman Health nurse

The pedestrian hit and killed in a crosswalk on West Oak Street on Thursday morning has been identified as Leslie Brown, a nurse with Bozeman Health since 2015.

"Our Bozeman Health Care Team is heartbroken by the tragic loss of one of our own," the hospital said in a release Friday afternoon. "Leslie was an exceptional, dedicated, compassionate nurse and an incredible human being who had a way of making everyone feel cared for. She will be remembered for her excellence, kind heart, and passion by all who had the privilege of working alongside her.

"Our thoughts are with Leslie’s family, friends, and our Bozeman Health Care team as we all grieve this deeply felt loss."

Brown was struck early Thursday morning by a vehicle traveling west on Oak Street near Gallatin Regional Park, the Bozeman Police Department said in a release later that day.

Life-saving measures were started on Brown, who was later transported to Bozeman Health Deaconess for advanced medical care, BPD said. She succumbed to her injuries and was declared deceased at the hospital.

This incident remains under investigation by detectives from the Bozeman Police Department, along with assistance from the Montana Highway Patrol. Preliminary findings indicate the vehicle failed to stop for the pedestrian in a posted pedestrian crosswalk.

“The Bozeman Police Department extends their deepest condolences to all those affected by this tragic loss of life,” BPD Chief Jim Veltkamp said Thursday. “Thank you to the Bozeman Fire Department, Montana Highway Patrol, American Medical Response, and the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance during this event.”
