87 animals seized in Corvallis area neglect investigation

CORVALLIS, Mont. — An animal neglect investigation in the Corvallis area led to 87 animals being removed from a residence and placed into protective care, Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.

After reports of animal neglect, the sheriff’s office said deputies served a search warrant with help from Bitter Root Humane Association, the Humane Society of Western Montana and The Wings Program.

The animals included dogs, cats, rats and livestock. The sheriff’s office said they were taken to Bitter Root Humane Association, the Humane Society of Western Montana in Missoula and The Wings Program, where they’re getting veterinary evaluation and care.

Bitter Root Humane Association and the Humane Society of Western Montana said they were unable to take in local animals and were open by appointment only because the seized animals filled their shelters.

The case is still active and possible criminal charges are under review with the Ravalli County Attorney’s Office.

The agencies also said the animals in protective care are not available for adoption while the investigation continues.
