Agricultural exports, Dahlman Farms highlighted by Gov. Gianforte

Gov. Greg Gianforte highlighted the state’s foreign agriculture exports at a farm near Power to celebrate Montana crops.

Last week, the governor visited Dahlman Farms, which grows wheat, durum, malt barley, lentils, peas and raises commercial beef cattle. Lee Dahlman owns the farm and is the vice chairperson of the Montana Wheat and Barley Committee.

He joined the governor on a trade trip to South Korea and Japan last year. Both nations are in the state’s top-five foreign trading partners — in 2024 South Korea purchased more than $335 million of Montana goods, while Japan bought over a quarter billion.

“Montana farmers and ranchers produce some of the highest quality wheat, barley, and beef in the world,” Gianforte said in a press release. “Montana farm families like the Dahlmans not only grow crops here at home, but also help tell Montana agriculture’s story abroad, strengthening relationships with trading partners and opening new markets for our producers.”

While in South Korea and Japan last year, the delegation met with wheat and beef purchasers. Dahlman has also hosted multiple foreign delegations on their farm, the release said.

“These trade missions give farmers like me the opportunity to meet directly with the customers who buy Montana wheat,” Dahlman said in a press release. “Seeing how our grain is used overseas and building those relationships helps ensure strong markets for Montana producers for years to come.”

Montana Agriculture week was last week and March is national agricultural month.
