American Indian Powwow

Montana’s largest indigenous gathering, the annual MSU American Indian Council Powwow,  will take place Friday and Saturday, March 29 and 30. The event is open to all at no cost. The traditional observance has a special place in the hearts of all who put the event together as it is dedicated this year to missing and murdered indigenous women and girls.

The celebration will begin with an American Indian Hall Ground Blessing Ceremony for the future location of the MSU American Indian Hall on the lawn adjacent to Hannon Hall at 3 p.m. Friday afternoon. It will be immediately followed by the grand entry to kick off the Powwow at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, the morning will start off with a 5K fun run as well as a 1-mile walk, beginning at 9 a.m., with registration starting at 8 a.m. in the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse parking lot. Registration includes a t-shirt and costs $20. The Alumni brunch will happen at 9:30 a.m., preceded by two more grand entries, starting at noon and 6 p.m.

In the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse, Native American cuisine such as bison stew in a squash bowl, bison sliders, elk chili and fry bread with a traditional berry sauce will be served. Informational booths will be set up along with a selection of handmade items available for purchase.
