Blossom-Thompson ticket wins

Taylor Blossom and Lizzy Thompson expressed feelings of excitement and optimism following their presidential and vice presidential victories on Wednesday, April 11.

“I feel incredibly excited. This is an incredible opportunity and I’m looking forward to making MSU a better place,” Blossom said. “More than anything, I’m very thankful for this experience,” Thompson added. By the time polls closed, the Blossom-Thompson ticket took 1,888 votes, 62 percent of the total 3,301 votes cast for the executive ticket. Candidates Justin Hodges and Courtney Stutheit amassed 1,143 votes, consequently losing the campaign.

Only 3,198 of an eligible 15,495 voters cast their ballots in the general election, for a voter turnout of 20.6 percent. This number is down from a 22.2 percent turnout last year. Blossom and Thompson recognize student participation as a challenge facing them. “There are shortcomings concerning engagement with ASMSU that Thompson and I hope to remedy,” Blossom said.

Blossom and Thompson seem ready to get to work. “I am excited to work with passionate student leaders on campus and create a positive reputation for ASMSU. We want to be a catalyst of change rather than just another layer of red tape.” Thompson said. The Blossom-Thompson team expressed that making the students heard is their priority. “I’m so excited to get to represent the student voice and to fight for students,” Blossom said. “Whether that means lobbying the administrators, regents or state legislature.”
