Bobcat Athletics announces digital ticketing
In an article published on Friday, Aug. 28, Bobcat Athletics announced a new digital ticketing procedure for MSU fans in preparation for the return of sports events. Instead of sending out physical tickets and risking undue COVID-19 transmission through paper contact, attendants will be able to use their own mobile devices to gain entry.
This announcement comes as Bobcat Athletics moves toward scheduling both spring sports and postponed fall sports. The NCAA has begun to announce a few sports that will play this school year. Universities can begin competing in basketball starting Wednesday, Nov. 25.
When the Pac-12 athletic conference begins playing football starting Saturday, Nov. 7, the seasons of all FBS conferences will be underway. Some Division I FCS and Division II football seasons have also begun. Unfortunately, no official schedule for Bobcat football or the Big Sky Conference have been released as of Oct. 7, though Bobcat Athletics has said that schedules should be out sometime in the next few weeks.
The transition to digital ticket distribution is just one of many precautions being taken by the university to mitigate the threat of the coronavirus. According to Bethany Cordell, the Associate Athletic Director of Bobcat Athletics, a team has been meeting since April to discuss solutions to problems posed by the pandemic with regard to sporting events.
Events will be held in reduced capacity, so only a fraction of the usual tickets will be available. When they are available, students, season ticket holders and sponsors (in no particular order) will have priority over the general public.
Even if ticket holders don’t have a device to display the ticket, a PDF will be emailed to them. MSU has ensured that the process will be easy, flexible and accessible by anyone.
Though there’s nothing normal about spring football and sparse stadiums, the move towards live sports at least lends a sense of the familiar—a rare commodity in the current state of the world.
