Bobcat Football comes up short

The Bobcats hosted the Eastern Washington University (EWU) Eagles on Saturday, Sept. 29 for their first home conference game of the 2018 season. The Eagles, ranked number five in the Football Championship Series (FCS) coaches’ poll, proved to be too much to handle as the Cats fell to them 34-17.

EWU opened up the game with an eight-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a three-yard touchdown plunge. The Cats easily countered. In two plays, sophomore quarterback Troy Andersen scampered from 25 yards out to knot the score at seven apiece. EWU’s high-power offense overpowered the Cats’ defense again as they easily marched down the field, highlighted by a two-yard touchdown dive. Junior kicker Tristan Bailey connected from 31 yards out to bring the Cats within four. Unfortunately, that was as close as they would get. The Eagles ran away with it, eventually pushing the tally to 34-10. In the fourth quarter Andersen lunged in from one yard out for the Cats final score.

Andersen finished with another impressive running game. He accrued 94 yards on the ground and 156 through the air. Junior safety Jahque Alleyne had a strong outing on defense, leading the way with eight tackles for the Cats. Junior cornerback Greg Filer III pulled off a nice interception to top the Cats’ defensive highlights.

The Bobcats have a bye-week this week but will return for Homecoming against the University of Idaho Vandals on Oct. 13.
