Every 10 years, the U.S. Census Bureau counts people where they live and sleep most of the time to determine the allocation of billions of dollars in government funding and political representation in Congress. If you are a Montana State University student who lives in Bozeman — even if you are temporarily elsewhere due to the COVID-19 pandemic — you should be counted here for the 2020 census.

The census impacts funding for things like federal student loans, federal research grants, health and social services, student wellness programs, medical assistance programs, campus safety improvements and more.

The U.S. census has been taken for 230 years and counting. For the first time in history, households have the option to respond online. You can also respond through other traditional methods — by phone or by mail.
