Bobcat volleyball digs out a win

The Bobcat volleyball season began on Sunday, Jan. 25, in Greeley, Colo., against Northern Colorado. This Big Sky volleyball season will look much like the basketball season, with teams playing in two-game series either on the road or at home.

In the first match, the Bobcats defeated the reigning Big Sky champions in straight sets (3-0) to snap a 29-match losing streak against UNC. The Cats were led by Sophomore middle blocker Emma Pence who recorded five kills and Senior libero Libby Christenson with an impressive 13 digs.

“We had over 400 days to prepare for this moment,” Bobcat volleyball head coach Daniel Jones said. “This team committed to get better and improve each day. They were extremely confident going into the match because of their preparation.”

The Cats looked to repeat against the Bears on Monday, Jan. 26, but fell short, losing 3-0 in a match that was close throughout the three sets. The two-game series against Northern Colorado puts the Cats’ record at 1-1.

Last year the Bobcats completed their best season as of late, and with 12 returning players there is an opportunity to build off that success. In a media poll released in July, the Bobcats were predicted to finish fourth behind (1) Northern Colorado, (T2) Northern Arizona and (T2) Weber State.

The Cats will look to avenge their loss on Saturday, Feb. 6, and Sunday, Feb. 7, against Northern Arizona. The match will be broadcast live on Pluto TV channel 1057.
