Bobcats finish second at conference championships

The Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships were held in Worthington Arena over a three-day span starting Thursday, Feb. 21. Both MSU men’s and women’s teams have had spectacular indoor seasons and looked to finish the indoor portion of the year with a Big Sky title.

After three days of competing, both Bobcat teams took second place. The men’s team totalled 113 points putting them well above all other competitors besides Northern Arizona who put up an astounding 178.5 points. The women’s team managed to earn 79 points, barely beating out Northern Arizona and Southern Utah, but not good enough to top Sacramento State, who finished with 100 points.

Three Bobcats, along with both 4x400 relay teams took first place in their respective events. Junior Wyatt Thompson-Siporen earned a gold medal in the men’s pole vault competition clearing 16’ 2”. Sophomore McKenna Ramsay took first in the 400 meter, with a converted time of 55.09 seconds — her personal record. Freshman Lucy Corbett cleared 5’ 9.25” in the high jump, also earning first place. Including the first-place finishes, the Cats totalled 14 all-conference performances over the weekend.

The MSU track and field teams will enjoy a short break before they begin the outdoor season at the end of March.
